Is it consider normal for friends to hold ‘hand’?

We were at restaurant and sitting facing each other. Then i put both of my hands on the table (palm facing up) then while he was talking, he suddenly hold my hand (not fully hold it, but halfway hold, near my thumb area up to my mid palm) while still talking.. Which the topic we talk about is not even related to us, we were talking about animal at that time haha

i dont know if friends ever do this, or even close friend and if he ever have interest in me

not really but the weird part about this all is not that you're holding hands and just friends but the fact that you sat there and placed palms up on the table, that alone seems super weird. I can't even imagine it without thinking you're either praying lol or actually asking for someone to grab your hand, it's very weird. who does that

Its not like i put it in a prayer way.. cuz i was massaging my hand before.. then i stop.. so the position is more or less like 🤲🏻 But left thumb is still on my right hand
