Can a man cheat on a woman even though he loves her?

This is a very hard topic for girls and guys to come to terms with understanding. From what I gather all guys have cheated on their girlfriends at some or other stage but this is almost irrelevant when girls also cheat.

But girls usually won't cheat on a man that they are in love with and if they do cheat it is with a man they have feelings for. So there are feelings involved. But is it true that a man can cheat on a woman he really loves?

Whoa, hold yer bleedin' horses there, as far as generalizations go, that's pretty damn extreme. I realize you think that it's irrelevant because girls cheat too, but to say EVERY SINGLE GUY cheats at some point in their life doesn't do our gender service. There are some of us who like the idea of commitment and can keep our d***s in our pants when an oppertunity presents itself for us to do otherwise, simply because we are with another person at that point in time.

Anyway, pointless and irrelevant criticisms aside, a man can say he loves a woman and cheat on her, but his actions would render his words null and void. To cheat on someone is to break trust someone has put in you, and you obviously have no feelings towards the person you're cheating on if you're willing to break that trust. If you really love someone, (and I generalize with the word 'you' because it applies to both genders) then you won't cheat on them, because you know what is involved and do not want to hurt the person you love.

Yes, it was generalisations made up from assumptions of most of my girlfriends and even overheard conversatuions with guys..What I was trying to say tho that I don't actually think it is a gender thing..so agree with you on that point..:-). Thanks for your answer!! I think its pretty cool...

Yes, it is possible. Some of my friends love love love their wife very much but the sex just isn't there. Sex with another partner is just sex. It wasn't love-making. Many men suffer from grass is greener syndrome and having sex with the same person *head gesture towards wife* for the rest of your life is challenging. This is kind of depressing to think about.

I dont think it has to do with love.
They can cheat becuase they want a better sex life, or with the same reasons as girl, it could be commitment issues, boredom in the relationship, attraction to someoneelse despite having genuine feelings for your partner, the thrill of doing smt wrong...

That said i think its wrong to say that all men cheat, its not ALL. You just have to find the right one. Also not all women only cheat for love. They can cheat for the reasons stated above as well.

Also i never cheated on anyone. I am just thinking of reasons why someone would.

Apology accepted - no not all men cheat but men are wired differently. So many women have this assumption that all men cheat and its hard to find a good man. It's tough to hear and even as a woman to experience and I am a little disappointed that the NON cheaters have all answered and not the guys who went out, got a little too drunk and things went too far with some girl. I was hoping to get a bit of insight into this. Are men really able to separate emotion from sex as they say?

I'll try :-). It is good to hear. Girls and even guys have bad experiences with people and often don't think there is such a think as a non-cheating, good guy. So since you DONT cheat and never have maybe you can give me an answer on the flip side of the coin? What has kept YOU faithful. Maybe not as a guy but as a person. But knowing that men are more appreciative of beauty than even women are. That's not a generalisation!!

What makes me faithful is my personal ethics and values. The things that are built over a lifetime of deciding what is right and what is wrong. I also have plenty of self control, which is necessary for resisting temptations of all kinds. I also don't fear being alone, so I don't hang onto a girl until I'm absolutely sure I have another one to go to.

I like that answer - it makes sense with a few people I know who hang on and cheat and cheat until they find another one. Dam - its hectic! I also think - if you don't want to be with the person anymore just say so...Thanks for your comments.
