My ex told me sex is smtg that couples do?

I was in a rough discussion with my ex he told me that I didn't make enough sacrifice in the relationship I told him based on my culture and my beliefs that "If I had sex with you it is because I loved u for me it is a big sacrifice" he told me "sex is something couple do it is something is normal in a relationship" I have been raised in a culture that believes in sex after marriage.. and the fact he thought that was nothing made feel stupid a little and regret for even trying to have sex with him... advice for my next relationship? what do you think?

I thought that too and I wasn't sure about it.. I felt like I wasn't a normal person and felt bad for a second at the same I was trying to convince my self that I'm good and he just didn't love me that much.. thanks for your opinion!
