Is my boyfriend abusive or is it his mental state?

So I love my boyfriend dearly but the issue is, we fight over the smallest of things. He gets mad at me a lot telling me to shut up, calls me dramatic, as well as a bi*ch. If I even try to call him names or fight back, it will get worse. He never hit me or harmed me, nothing like that. It’s just the stuff he says and how I can’t even defend myself. It’s like he is always right, I have no say in things. He is also mentally ill (Schizophrenia). When we don’t fight it’s really nice, fun, and he acts like the best man ever. When we fight, he acts very mean to me and I can’t figure out if it’s really abusive or maybe his mental state drives him crazy.

I wouldn't give a shit about his mental state, sounds like a nullshit excuse to me.

You say he isn't physically abusive but that really means nothing to me, I have always felt mental abuse is worse! Mental abuse can lead to physical as well! he's not bruising you no, instead he wearing down your very being and conscious, chiseling away at to your confidence, self esteem, self respect, your morals, he altering your thought process! And as it goes on you become more complacent to his abuse. There may be some mental manipulation going on here too, he acts how ever he wants cause he dosent think you have what it takes to leave him.

Leave him. He is poison to your mind.
