Was I right to curse out my racist parents for belittling my black girlfriend?

I'm 19, she's 20. She's not 100% black... her dad is white, but her mother is a 100% black African-American woman. However, her skin color is still very dark. Only slightly lighter than her mom's. Though she does have straight, very long hair... which is possible in black women, just uncommon.

We were already dating before I moved out of my parent's house. By now, we've been together for about 8 months.

8 months may not seem like a lot, but we've been together almost every day, several hours a day, so she's the person I love most in my life right now.

I love her because she's cute, outgoing, confident, kind, intelligent, athletic, sexy, seductive, laughs easily, and a great support system when I'm down.

About a week ago, there was gonna be dinner at my parent's house... I let her know my parents are incredibly racist once again, like I let her know less than a week into our dating. She said she's used to it though, won't take it to heart, and just wants to see what kind of people they are.

So I let her come along...

At first, me, her, and my parents got along just fine. For the first 20 minutes or so. But then they began making comments.

"She's just your friend right? I mean you couldn't possibly be dating a (n-word)."

"She looks more attractive than most (n-word), but her skin is too dark for her to be a real lady."

"You wouldn't do this to us. If I had (n-word) children, I'd commit suicide."

And I could notice my girlfriend getting increasingly more and more mad, though she just kept quiet.

But then, I snapped, "STOP THIS! SHE'S MY GIRLFRIEND, WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT! AND IF YOU'RE NOT GONNA LOVE HER LIKE A DAUGHTER, I DON'T WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOU BOTH ANYMORE!"

And my parents just sort of stopped talking, and my girlfriend smiled.

I don't regret this, and neither does my girlfriend, but do you think I maybe was too hard on them/went too far?

Before we are anything, we are human and part of humanity. Yet we get so wrapped up in what group we are part of or what group other people are part of, we forget that. I think it's fair to say that is where your mom and dad are. They are too wrapped up in group to see the universal truth. Also it's frustrating to think that there are many people of different races having the same augment with their parents. Because they are dating outside of their race.

Yes you where in the right. Simply because you where standing up for your girlfriend and yourself. Also you standing up them was a small victory for humanity in general. Because we should have moved past such issues a long time ago. The only reason we have not is because not enough people of all stripes have stood up and mushed humanity past them.

Respect your parents... that being said if your serious about this girl like willing to lose family over her then put your foot down. A real man will not allow any harm wether physical or otherwise happen to her man... he protects her body and honor to the death.


Mind you the politics of this are changing but if we were in older times ide call you a real man.

was engaged to a girl from india and went through something simular with my grandmother. we were veey close (grandma is dead now) but when i told her i got engaged to her grandma commented about "the mixing if the races". my reply was "its my life, either accept her too or live without me". she shut that shit up and that ended the issue.

I can understand not wanting mixed race grandkids. I used to think very similarly. However, in these trying times, finding a good girl of any race is so difficult, so if you find one and she happens to be black, fuck it, what's more important is how she will raise the kids not what colour their skin is and from what i can see, most black girls would make better moms than white girls these days
