What does it mean to respect yourself?

Respecting yourself means being okay with you as you are and accept yourself both the good and bad and dont judge yourself because of that. Its okay to work on yourself to be a better person, but we are not gonna ever be perfect and always see some flaws on ourselves and thats ok. We need to understand, that we are already complete without needing validation of others. If you trully respect yourself, you dont seek validation from external sources.. you dont need the hottest girl in a city, riding a lambo or swimming in money to prove you that you are enough, because we will not be ever satisfied with what we have and when we lose something our confidence relied heavily on (like that hot girlfirend or lambo) our confidence is gone aswell. You respect yourself as your are internaly from your actions.
Really like this answer!!
The part about "actions" sums it up.
To KNOW "where you draw the line" and to stick TO it, unless there are 'exceptional' circumstances.
Everyone has their 'breaking point' limits. 'Principles' are POOR consolation to an empty bed~
The lyrics to "We may NEVER pass this way again..." -Seals & Crofts
yes, where to draw the line. I'll listen to that again, a great song from the 70's.
I've found those breaking points lead to other things... there's undiscovered truths in there if willing to explore. There's always a new mountain it seems, inside of us.
"All the things I thought I knew, I have to learn again", The heart of the matter.
to make choices n life that dont damage you like alcohold and drug abuse or slutty sexual behavior. Also not letting other people use you and treat you like shit, like standing up for ysf
Those are good. I didn't learn some of those... age is meaningless... emotional development is.
Well done if you have!
thank you and yes i was from the early age very mature bout some things, but its more more to life experience and self work than age
Do not do anything that can be self damaging. Basically love your self and make good decisions.
Good. I guess if going to do something, do it out of love... rather than guilt, shame, fear, etc? We all do things that are self damaging and it may feel good, I know I've done it. Knowing the difference is the hard part as the underlying training/beliefs may have been... wrong.

Respecting yourself simply means having standards and boundaries and enforcing them with others. It's when we allow people to walk all over us that we lose a sense of self respect.
Well said!
Here's a twist: To be open to others perspectives, learning, growing, changing. But that means having control of our growth and change. But it may take a lot of listening and allowing to be vulnerable. Reality is... our "self" can be messed up. Defending a messed up self can be the definition of "stuck". There's a fine line somewhere...
@lightbulb27 I like that a lot.
its hard to respect urself when no one else does, everyone around me is a hateful asshole... i havnt met a nice person in years
everyone?
yh pretty much, i mean I've met a few people who are nice n decent n not assholes but... uhh nvm lol
Don't let people walk on you, stand up for yourself, don't compromise your principles and value yourself.
very clear!
We all have morals and principles and always following and not betraying what we believe that is how i respect myself.
To care about what you do, and how you do it.
yes, I see that in disciplines like showing up on time, quality of work and communications.
To take care of yourself, as a person, well being
In actual practice it means to be unemployed lol.
Exactly what that question means
follow Gods rules
Treat your self good
