How reliable is the DNA testing offered by sites like Ancestry. com or 23andMe etc?

Well for starters, I have heard interesting things concerning about both ancestry. com, and 23andMe which is actually quite informative depending on how you look at it. Those for what I heard I asked me one of the two top brands so far that have reliable products that helps a lot of people to figure out what's going on depending on what they are looking for. However I think it's safe to say like with any other product or brand, you really have to look at the factors of not only what is your intent with the product, but your willingness to be disappointed by it. The reason being is like what 11 have said already, people had different experiences regarding those two Brands. So far from what I heard 23andMe is actually one of the best in comparison. And they say it is for many reasons.

You also have to think about things to consider when you're choosing these types of brands:

1. Privacy concerns
2. Database accuracy
3. What comes with the test
4. How much your will to spend, and are you really getting everything woth what you spend?
5. Are you looking for DNA results fpr your genes only, or both and health reasons.

These five things are actually something that is actually more important. You have to understand that once you start doing those tests, all your personal information will go to those who have to handle it. You have to think about those who may have the ability to access it, and the consequences that comes with it is they're not able to keep those information safe. Even though it just comes down to money, you also have to think about what type of product from those two companies based on your package that you looking to get. I kind of forgot what it was like for Ancestry. com, but I do know that with 23andMe, they have I think three to five different packages that you can purchase. The basic naturally make costs slightly less. If you try to get anything a little more than that, you may pay a lot higher, but if you get an overall bundle, depending on if they have a sale or not, you may pay a lot less and still get extra things you may want and need. That is against something you consider when choosing one of the other. It's best to take notes so that way you can probably compare which one may be best for you and not over spend your money. You just got to also remember that there's a possibility that your those may be a bit shocking or even slightly inaccurate. It really all depends. If you're looking for something just over a simple, ancestry. com maybe better for you. If you looking for something more in death, 23andMe is definitely something you may want to check out, but wasn't that if you just want the basic features or not solely depends on you. I think given the fact especially with this covid going on, people are definitely going to want to benefit 23andMe especially for the Health reasons because it could tell you what your allergic to or your not, what runs in your family, what doesn't, if you pre- positioned for certain cancers, diseases if I remember correctly, and other serious things.

Your welcome. What I suggest is look at each website, write down a few notes, and see which one seems like a better solution for you. But definitely save up your money because it can be quite pricey.

Well I say it could be very beneficial especially in these days and times. But I will say this though. If you're finding some interesting things about your health and your genetics that sounds like it's questionable, you may want to evaluate your PCP, especially if you suspect that you have a particular disease or illness and they tell you that you don't only to find out that you do. People that I personally know that have taken that test, have found out they was diagnosed with things doctor said they never had. Once they started doing a lot of changes now they're doing a lot better than what the doctor said. So I suggest you really think about that. But remember just because it tells you certain things on your report, that doesn't mean that is always true, and it doesn't mean you're always going to get something or passed something down. It's just something to think about because our genetic tend to be influenced by a lot of things we eat, do, etcetera.

Pretty much everything you hear about personal information; hackers, data breaches, things like that. That is why I said to understand what your risking when you do these things because again, that is your personal and genetic information. Like in clinics and hospitals they also have access to that infromation.

Those tests are fairly accurate but of course, they are relatively superficial because they cannot compete in terms of accuracy with forensic DNA tests that costs thousands.

My brother has done 2 parallel tests with 2 different companies and the results are very close to each other. However, I am not sure whether some of the companies are not performing their DNA tests in the same labs and if they are not exchanging the date between each other.

It is always interesting to see when a DNA match from one company results in the very same DNA match with the other company a few days later.

Never tried it but according to reviews I've read in newspapers if you submit the same sample five times you'll get five different results. There's even been cases of people sending in samples from their dogs and they never spotted it's not human dna.
I think they're just expensive gimmicks.

These sites are data mining sites to collect dna data for behavioral and political affiliation analyses. Someday, these data will be used to manipulate reproduction and eventually politics to breed the best most reliable slaves the cabal has ever seen.

The actual test results usually give very little useful information in isolation. However, combined with known documented lineage, they can knock down "brick walls" in finding ancestors. Linked with a known close relative, who has been tested, they can reveal quite a bit. Although I am an amateur genealogist, I have not had one done yet. Something for the future.

it's really not that accurate. my mom did one and it said what we thought it would but then it said 30% OTHER i mean if you're gonna pay that much for it i'd want to no the OTHER

Initially I considered it reliable and they even managed to guess the village of my great grand parents which impressed me. I changed my mind when they added more data and gave an update to my results. They shifted something like 40% from broadly European to East Asian. I started laughing. How stupid is that? I can understand if the percentage in the change is small but to change your race entirely that's just laughable.

They compare your DNA to samples of people with known ancestry in their database.

Which means that any given percentages given peoples listed don't necessarily have to be your ancestry at all.

But it's a fun thing anyway
