How reliable are AncestryDNA and TellmeGen test results for users?

Please share if you’ve had good or bad experiences with either company.

I’ve already purchased a test from AncestryDNA but haven’t received any results about relatives yet. TellmeGen, on the other hand, focuses more on health rather than family connections. Their prices are somewhat reasonable in comparision to others, but both expensive, and I’m not sure how reliable their results really are.

Those DNA test are all the same, whether it is from Ancestry, MyHeritage or those you are mentioning.

They all take a saliva sample and have it compared against a large database. The big danger is that you are giving governments directly access to your DNA for their sole use.

Some of the companies are located in a terrorist rated country and all your information may be used to spy on you and to create a profile on you since government have unrestricted access to that DNA information you provide for a small fee.

You are giving the government information that they would have to work on at high expense to obtain. Those DNA are nothing but scams.

As we have seen in the Savannah Guthrie case, even if you don't use these tests yourself, if someone you are related to does, even if you don't know them or have never even heard of them, it can lead back to you. If there is a false positive it can be a huge expensive mess for you to try to get out of.

Its a money grab scam.

I saw a man during a interview explained how its not accurate at all.

Basically he said for ex. Say your great grandmother lived in Japan for about 5 or 10 years, her DNA just leaves traces and markers of where she lived but that doesn't mean your grandmother is Japanese.

These tests are useful to prove family lineage and relations, but forget about the usual "I'm 17% Italian, because the test said so". Such heritage percentages are largely bogus.
