Why would he bring this up?(my brother’s best friend)?

When I was younger, I had a huge crush on my older brother’s best friend. I was a few years younger than him and extremely shy at the time, so I could barely even talk to him without my face turning red. I remember confiding in my one good friend at the time about my crush, but we got into a fight and she messaged him telling him that I liked him. I was mortified, but he never said anything to me so I figured she was just lying to upset me. Fast forward almost ten years later, he’s recently started coming around after disappearing for awhile. He’s sitting around with my family and I, when he suddenly brings up the old message that my friend sent him (and I swear my heart stopped for a second). My face instantly turned red as he told the story of my old crush in detail to my family. After all of these years, I was super embarrassed that he remembered my crush, and brought it up in front of my family! Everyone thought it was hilarious (I didn’t stick around to hear the whole story, I was too embarrassed so I practically ran out of the room). But I’m just wondering WHY after all the years, he would bring that up-and to my family! I feel like his sole purpose for doing it was to embarrass me, and it worked! It’s been on my mind nonstop ever since and I can’t stop feeling.. hurt? I just feel pretty pathetic and like I’m nothing more than a joke. Just looking for some insight on why a guy would do this to someone? Thanks in advance!
