Hi from a (kind of former) shy girl. A lot of my friends left or switched schools, so I sat at breaks alone as well sometimes. Cause I was shy I wasn't really someone that would initiate conversation. The fact that she gestured you to come closer does tell me that she could probably tell you sat there wanting to talk to her or that she just wanted to talk to you. Either way it's positive. Awkward silences just happen when you're both shy, doesn't mean anything. I don't take smiling and friendliness necessarily as interest, but it does mean she propably likes you as a person. I had a shy guy that told me he liked me via schoolemail haha. I didn't like him back but I admired his confidence. So I'd say just be confident in who you are, and don't be afraid to go up to her to talk. Maybe you could take eachothers numbers then for something casual. When talking for some time just look whether she responds back equally and maybe starts to initiate conversations or not. If she does it's a good sign. It's up to you and the situation what you do next, tell her you like her and ask her out or maybe you can ask her to hang out casually first. At school for an assignment or just something like the mall. Try to make her understand that you want to spend time with her because you like her. Don't keep hanging casually (i'm talking months) cause that could possibly make things weird. Only you can really feel the situation, so I'd say go with your gut, be confident while respecting her space. Think but don't overthink it all haha.

Okay, if a girl smiles at you, that's a very good sign. And if she made the gesture for you to come to her, she likes you. She will DEFINITELY not forget you. If she didn't like you, she would've walked away from the first glance. Sit with her again, I'm sure she's love it. I know I would. :) good luck!
You should sit with her again she'd probably be happy with it
Just talk to her and spend time around her
