My crush talked to other girls about me?

I had a crush on girl A. Her best friend girl B, who is my friend, knows that. Girl A rejected me because she didn't like something about my personality.

After like 2 months I got to know girl C for the first time. She was friends both in real life and social media with girl B but not girl A, which I'm 100% sure. I tried to improve myself so as not fall into the same situation. We texted happily and got a bit closer.

Then one day girl C suddenly became cold and never texted me again. I didn't do or say anything that could ruin the potential relationship. We were happy. I tried to text her a few times but she clearly wasn't as reactive as before. Then I found out she became friends with girl A on facebook and instagram too.

I don't know how she got to know girl A. Maybe girl C asked girl B about me and got "introduced" to her. But still. I tried not to think that way but that's my only explanation. Maybe she said something negative about me. It could be girl B... Is this kind of "reference", if it really happened, toxic?
