Do you want recording artists to keep singing into old age or stop when they are at their best?

I don’t know… some voices can change for the better when a person gets older… like I thought Tony Bennett’s voice got better as he got older, (to a certain point). I’m not a fan of the stuff he did when he was in his 20’s and 30’s. (Even though a lot of it was the same songs). He was always a good singer, it just didn’t sound the same when I was used to the more mature voice than the higher voice when he was younger. It’s hard to describe because it’s all a similar voice from the same person… to me it was less… velvety, perhaps?
I think Sinatra’s voice seemed to stay about the same, even getting older. It perhaps got deeper, but I can listen to anything from the ‘40’s to the ‘90’s.
I also don’t think “experimentation” with style is often bad. Taylor Swift was “Country” and went to pop… successfully. Same with Miley Cyrus. Darius Rucker has done pretty well switching from rock to country (and perhaps back again?)
I suppose it really depends on timing, promotion, etc
Taylor Swift left Country (and became a billionairess) because of her disdain for "Bro-Country."
So this is what I feel deep down because this is a great question.
I want the artist to do what makes them happy because it doesn't seem to be fair to let others project their will onto others for the sake of what they perceive as stopping when their best art has been created. We're so lucky to have artists sharing their art with the world. Most critics can't create any art but yet they judge lol.
That said, I think I understand why some people have this reaction. When an artist brings a person so much pleasure you just want to know that feeling. If somehow they stop producing that feeling for you it ruins something inside. I can't describe it exactly other than why some people are so critical of an actor or actress as they age. "Look at how old they are" comments like they're supposed to stay 25 forever lol.
I'm not sure if I've answered your question correctly because it's making me think deeply and sometimes a simple question makes me think a lot lol.
Also, it sounds like I'm calling you a critic and that's not what I meant. I recall you saying you're an artist yourself. That was just meant for people who judge talent but have none lol.
I want them to keep going until they are old and gray.
Some of them that were bands from the 70's are still rockin' out and doing concerts.
Their music 🎶 us probably what keeps them going.
I think they should probably go out with fans wanting more instead of just fading away sadly. As long as they're financially set.

Excellent question.
As long as they sound close to their earlier more popular style, they can keep producing albums. Problem comes when they try to change their style with time to appeal to the newer younger audience. That is when they lose on quality and any sense of their music. Example: Bon Jovi.
Also, when they get to a certain age they lose their energy. Then they start producing much mellower music compared to what they used to. Not only that, they cannot even sing their own songs the way they used to. That is another cause of their lost quality. Examples: Bryan Adams, Richard Marx, Madonna.
Even Michael Jackson's later albums were becoming crap.
(Not sure why the app is showing my middle paragraphs in bold). No shouting or screaming intended ,😂
Probably because that quack "Dr." Murray was dosing Michael with all sorts of drugs.
@handsomelad70 Hahahaha. (😬 Not sure if I was supposed to laugh...). You may be right though. Also, I am not sure if his musicians and producers also changed because even the music became very ordinary.
Stop when they're at their best. It's like Mike Tyson coming back into the ring after 19 years of retirement. He's 57 fucking years old and wants to fight Jake Paul. Just stay retired man. Everyone wants to remember you as the legend you were in your prime. Everyone gets old. Your voice changes. Your body changes. If you're not doing something that only requires you to use your mind like Jordan Peterson or Elon Musk, just stay retired.
Yes absolutely they should not stop singing! Listen to this masterpiece of India's no.1 Music composer A. R. Rahman. My favourite music composer, I can't live without his music. He is going to compose music for Taylor Swift.
My favourite Indian female singers Alka Yagnik, Sadhana Sargam, Kavita Krishnamurthy, etc. I think they should not stop singing.
https://youtu.be/8NGFLz8CX38?si=GN6prJ0J34mAEFQUMy favorite is Bobby Horton, and the 2nd South Carolina String band. I certainly want them to keep performing, I'd like them at my wedding, if I may be so bold.
"Wearing of the grey" by Bobby Horton is without a doubt, my favorite song, it's so beautiful. I normally hate sad music, but this song is just amazing
very nice 🎵
try this one

That is a great question! Unfortunately it's one that can't be answered generically. I'll give you an example, Frank Sinatra. Old Blue eyes could sing up until the day he died and he was perfect. Stevie nicks and Vince Neil. They both should have stopped. Stevie nicks after her surgery was not the same and Vince Neil turned into a fat lump of shit which affected his breathing and voice.
They have to pay the rent too. Sure. It may be nostalgia, but it still brings people to see them. Some keep creating new material or performing it in new ways. Bob Dylan is an example where’s he’s rubbish in concerts but is still creating new, interesting, and many would say good songs.
What I "want" is irrelevant. If they continue to make music I like, I'll listen to them. If they don't, I'll listen to the music they made that I did like. Perfect example is the Rolling Stones.
I love the Stones stuff from 60's and early 70's, as did my parents. However, they were done for my tastes in 1978 after the "Some Girls" LP. They released albums with one, maybe two decent tracks over the next 16 years, but they were very weak by comparison to their old works. By the time they hit "Bridges to Babylon" in 1994, they were unnoticeable as far as new music was concerned. They still sell out concerts around the world, because they're legendary, but all their really good stuff is 45 to almost 60 years old.
Up to the artists themselves to decide whether they want to stop or not at whatever age. Although the public and fans have the right to have their own opinions, they should not have anything to say in that field.
My decision is whether I want to still watch them, or not.
It's their decision whether to continue.
The two are connected.
that looks like a famous singer.. country? Amy?
old age... like I want to see Pat Benatar singing "Fire and Ice"... when she's 102!:)
If their voice still sounds good why not? That said, I would want their style and topic of music to evolve and mature as they age.
One of my favorite songs is Johnny Cash covering Hurt when he was very old. The age lends a gravity to his song, and it can't be replicated by someone younger. I think aging can create a unique tone to the voice that has its own Beauty
Thats their decission. Some artists release incredible good songs, even after decades.
Creativity has no age limit
They can keep singing. But if they are trying to dance and act all sexual when they are over 50 it doesn’t look good at all.
As long as they can sing well, and their songs are enjoyable and they love what they do, not because they squandered their money and have to keep doing it. I feel sorry for the latte. r
If they make money why not keep on? A lot of artists are stuck in contracts that require them to keep performing. Willie Nelson for example is one who can't afford not to due to bad representation.
For those who get better with age, keep going.
Usually the latter, though NINETY-year-old Frankie Valli and his Four Seasons (a boyhood and young manhood favourite group) will soon be embarking on their (supposedly;at that age, ya think? ) last concert tour.
I want them to do what they want until they don't want to continue. If I don't like what they record at that point, I don't have to listen.
So long as they can still sing well, let them keep going.
Shania Twain is still pretty good.
It depends — did I find them annoying when they were in their supposed prime?
If they can still sing, even if they have to a full step down on the song, they should keep doing so.
They should do what they enjoy. If people don't like it, they don't have to listen to it!
Cliff Richard is 80 and can still sing. As long as the voice is there keep going
I think about Angus Young (not a singer, though) ... I leave the decision to THEM.
Ooops... Malcolm, of course. I got confused. Just like him in some way?
@spartan55 - not longer physically. He had dementia. But he kept playing until it was not longer possible. And the band-mates supported him in this. What impresses me here: it doesn't matter if you get beyond your best time... as long as you mean what you do, or love what you do.
No. Id rather see a fall in quality (without specific drama or issues) because then the what ifs come up and that's worse in my opinion
Gracefully retire, before they re totally past it and embarrassingly bad
I think as long as they are able to sing, they should keep doing it.
I would like them to keep doing it for as long as they think they're capable.
As long as they can still perform, why not keep going?
Shania Twain was going to go into song writing which she could have been the best in the business. She did nothing instead for 15 years.
i want them to stop when they are ready. I LOVE Johnny Cash even as he got older, and so happy he enjoyed making music until the end.
We saw Paul McCartney in concert when he was 75 and it was fantastic. He performed for three hours with no set break.
That is their business, not mine. I don't get a say in how they live their lives nor play out their careers.
Doesn’t matter what I want … autotune is real ! 😂
Keep singing if they are into it, if their passion for writing songs is still there.
Sing for as long as the want.
Keep singing 🎵
as long as they can sing do it
Keep it up
Fuck no
