I’m not referring to people who don’t want to date outside their race by the way I’m referring to people who don’t like other people dating outside their race and think it’s bad if they do.
My step dad is an Asian guy and my family was very prejudice of his relationship with my mom. Asking if he even speaks English (stupid question) and if he’s just coming to america to get a green card?
Which doesn’t make sense for them to ask cause a lot of my family are first generation immigrants themself (my mom included) ?
Apparently in the US at least, the approval of interracial dating is at a new high of 95% so I’m wondering why the 5% are against it?
Why are some people against mixed race relationships?
Race and culture are two very different things. Your family was engaged in stereotyping your step-dad. Making his fake "race" an issue. The funny thing is almost everyone who engages in racial stereotyping do not like being racially stereotype.
But that isn't my point.
My point is about culture. What if a member of your family who didn't like this, actually had cultural concerns? What if they were concerned about your family staying connected to African-American Culture, its traditions, history, holidays, etc?
And I mean this about any defined grouping. What if a "White" American married an American Indian? Perhaps this woman had absolute disdain for most of American history. She hated Christopher Columbus, holidays like Thanksgiving, etc. What is she hated the Founding Fathers and instead treasured leaders like Chief Joseph or Chief Plenty Coups?
There are cultural differences that we keep trying to erase, just because we are trying not to be racists.
Having a concern for culture is not the same as having a concern over race. And one day when "White" Americans claim their culture we will be done with this insane racial conversation.
People on this planet heads are so messed up they think this planet and everybody's business is there's.. so they want to make there voice be heard. Because down deep they know it's none of their business either that or they're racist and the best part about this is most racist people are a believer in God if they believe in God so much then why don't they look at this planet in a different way everybody is God's people you can't be a racist and get to heaven you can't judge people and get to heaven you can't lie to yourself or to anybody else to get to heaven I don't know all I know is that sometimes people are just so weird it's funny sometimes it's so sad just think of where you're born all blind and we couldn't see everything and we didn't know what color who was. But after you find the person that you love and you get married 20 years after you get married you get your eyesight back what would happen then nothing you still love the person you're with no matter the color I wish God would come down and change every racist person into a bullfrog and whatever race you are that's what color bullfrog you're going to be so you shine out bullfrogs don't care about race there's over a hundred different types of species of frogs I bet you they would still be together do some Budweiser commercials but at least it would be a part of the problem anymore we could focus our energy on something beautiful
If I had to guess, I'd say they were opposed to them because they're just racist. Quite often the simplest and most obvious answer is also the correct one.

I'd say it's most often because they are insecure/have fragile ego. Your ethnicity is not a trait you can change, so a deeply insecure person who sees an interracial couple (particularly couple where one of person is of their own race) may feel like not being of that race is somehow a contributing factor to their OWN lack of romantic/sexual success.
Sprinkle a bit of racism and preconceived notions, and you have a recipe for disaster.
I think people just want to be that way with people, I am white and have cousins who are mixed race and I would date or be in a long-term relationship with a girl of any race but some people like to be judgmental it's sad for sure
Yeah it’s a weird mindset plus it’s a lack of understanding biology and genetics. Your genes don’t just disappear, even if your kids don’t inherit your phenotype the genetic makeup for the genes will still be carried on so their kid or their kids kids might have your phenotype
It's nature that's racist. Nature created separate races. There were no white people born in Africa and there where no Black people born in Europe. The combination is an artificial creation of man. Everything artificial is unhealthy. It's the same reason people are against plastic surgery in women which Frequently ends up in Breast Cancer.
Different races aren’t uncommon or artificial. There are many species of animals that have different types within the same species, humans are no different
Just racist. I mean not dating outside of ones race is a personal preference, BUT mixed race breeding is part of evolution in the long term. We may be different races, however are the same species!!! It just diversifies our genes
I got no problem with it because being a dark Dominican it’s perfectly fine to date a columbian with a lighter complexion. Not considered interracial. So glad I don’t gotta deal with that white/black BS
Because they are ignorant and intolerant. I don't have any issues with it, nor does my family. I don't care what society thinks because it isn't my business.
Ex. If a white woman has a child by a black man, that child isn't going to look like a typical white boy or girl in such case she just significantly water down her ethnicity and if her son or daughter gets with and reproduces with another black person, her grand child will have a very great chance to just look like the typical black person, and not white.
In one generation her genetic phenotype won't look nothing like her, mom or dad.
I saw a picture of my former black friend's child on Facebook, the baby boy looks in his early stages looks like a white baby just like his mom, if his son gets with another white woman which most likely he will then my friend in one generation will be a grandfather to kids that don't look absolutely nothing like him nor his family at all..
He would have literally just washed away his blackness holding grandchildren that don't look like anyone in his family.
I don’t understand what’s so important about having your ancestors look like you. I have some mixed cousins in my family and they’re still family even if they don’t look like me?
Ah well that's unfortunate. You are going to have to decide for yourself what you believe is right and run with it. In the old, old days, most people lived their whole lives in one area and married within that community. Marrying outside that community may have been problematic in some ways. Nowadays everyone moves about and sees more of other groups. This thinking is less useful although if you are strongly embedded in one particular community, it may still have an effect. But beyond that, people are prejudice for various reasons and like to look down on other communities, especially if they seem to not live their lives as well as their own community.
Black peoples have dominant genes though. And I have seen blasians before, they usually have a mix of Asian and black features also that isn’t really true. The characteristics won’t die out, they’ll forever be inherited in your children’s dna even if they don’t have them they’ll be passed on unless somehow your entire family dies and doesn’t reproduce
And even if that happens that won’t be a problem since theirs probably more people in your ethnic group to pass their genes on. The other scenario is the intermixing of people creating new ethnic sub groups of people which can be seen a lot historically but I don’t think it’s a bad thing
