If I have two job offers offering me 75k a year, and one is in a higher cost of living city than the other, which job do I take?

the current city i live in i’m paying 2000 for a studio that would cost like 3.5-4k studio in the other city.

i like the city i live in, it’s just that i’m lonely af here (been living here for 1.5 years). been trying dating/making friends. i know i need to keep going and try harder but it feels like i’ll never find a boyfriend here. the men here just don’t seem my type.

the other city is much larger and there’s more night life and more of a melting pot of men from everywhere so many different types. but the job offer there is the same $. and i’d be living in much more of a shoebox. my friends/family there really want me to move back.

thing is if i moved there and didn’t find love, id still have no boyfriend and a shittier apartment (and gone through the whole moving hassle). if i stay here, i might not find a boyfriend but at least i have a really nice place and more money in the bank.

It will cost you 1/3 more of your income for accommodation to live in the higher cost of living city vs. the lower cost of living city, and that's without considering your other living expenses. The only pronto to working at a firm in the higher cost of living city is that there is probably more opportunity four advancement. On the other hand it could take 5 to 10 years to catch up financially in the more expensive place to live vs. the less expensive place. I'd go for the less expensive place to live, save your money and gain valuable experience then apply for a higher paying job in the more expensive city.

First, I wouldn’t recommend trying to find your answer here. Only you know your professional and personal wants, goals, etc.

That said, I’ll give you a few things to think about: which job has the most growth potential? Which job will provide more valuable experience? Would you be promotable at one job more so than the other?

You say that the guys in your current city just aren’t your type. Maybe you’re not looking in the right places? In my experience, if you’re looking for a future husband at a bar on a Saturday night, odds are you’ll only be encountering guys that aren’t your type.

How important is your family to you? I haven’t seen my parents in 2 years due to traveling. Do you want to miss out on your aging parents/relatives?

Are room mates in the other city an option? Maybe rent with 2-3 friends?

I don’t really have an opinion on which option you should take, but just advise to consider all the variables.

Are you serious that apartments are that expensive in the other city? That's around $45,000 a year just for a studio apartment. And after you subtract taxes from the $75,000 a year, you won't have much left after paying your rent. I don't see this working out. I can't believe rents are this expensive!!

what are you doing when you're working? working...
what are you doing with your time not working? vacations, dates, events, etc
Save the extra money and when you ACTUALLY have time to go enjoy more then use the extra money you saved to have a blast. And also city = higher crime, more air pollution, more civil unrest, terrible traffic, more drugs, etc, etc.

Go to the city if you want to or go to a nice beach resort instead lol. The choice is ultimately up to you.

Smaller city since you can keep more of your income to do other things with like invest/save. Your $75k job in the big city might be more like you're only making $20k or something, after expenses.

You never talked about which job you might like better. Which has opportunity to advance, which company culture is more suited to you. THese things are important.
