What makes someone a good partner? What traits do they have that make them a good partner?

You make yourself valuable. She makes herself valuable. Then you have two people of value to start with. Next you need to both believe in team work and that being together is for BOTH people's benefit not just one person. A person who is very independent/thinks it's all about "freedom" is not suited for being in a relationship just like you wouldn't want a selfish person to be a player on a team in a team sport. Okay, if they're the most talented player in the world you might BUT 99.9999% of people aren't that talented. Likewise 99.9999% of women aren't that valuable either.

You also need loyalty and respect. Without loyalty there's no commitment possible. Without respect then someone is going to be emotionally abused too.

Keep in mind that when you first meet somebody you don't know them well enough to really rate this stuff. Their past/reputation can help you make a guess tho. Don't go dating the person who is a known whore. That'd be foolish. Don't go dating the one who is rude to you or who acts like the world revolves around her. These would all suggest that she's lacking certain important traits.

I'd say they know you inside and out. Nothing is a secret with them. And you can trust them with every one of those secrets. The type of deal where all hopes of trying to surprise them by asking them to get married is impossible because they are the type to find the ring and then do it first. More than happy to break societies rules for the sake of wanting to be with you forever. Is the the type of partner that we all should seek. Someone who will always strive to be our equal or more. Someone who knows that we have only one time together and so they try to make every moment together just as important as the last one. Its only at that point that someone becomes not just a good partner but a great one.

They make you a priority in their life, they make you feel secure in the relationship, they're interested in growing as a couple, they communicate and are willing to work through any issues or disagreements in a non-combative way.
