Why may my ex be cropping half his and his gfs face out of a lot of their photos on social media?

He is with his first cousin by the way. She's the only family companion his age range left after his grandparents die. His mom and her. She went after him romantically he accepted bc he wanted family was desperate not to lose it. I don't defend him in any way shape or form just explaining the situation. His mom and grandparents don't know they are first cousins. His mom knows she his girlfriend but doesn't recognize her as her neice.
