My 21 year old boyfriend is afraid to ask his parents to stay the night at my house?

So I am 22 and my boyfriend is 21. I asked him to come stay the night at my house but he told me he’s afraid of what his parents would think about it. Keep in mind from time to time we do go on staycations and we’ve gone on 2 major trips (one that includes going out of the country). My boyfriend is a hard worker who does well for himself, he helps out with the bills in his household and has never gotten into trouble. I let him know I respected his decision and that was that. But truthfully, I really think it’s ridiculous considering the fact he is a grown 21 year old man. Let me know what your thoughts and opinions are.

Well you're right, he's an adult. It doesn't matter what his parents think, but for some reason it still matters very much to him and he must feel they wouldn't approve? Do they not like you? Or religious? It's also possible (although unlikely I think) that it's an excuse because he doesn't want to, for whatever reason? It's worth another discussion with him I think. Why does he think they'd have a problem with it, and why does it matter so much to him what they think?

Cultural - so yeah that's hard when it's for those reasons. But I guess you just have to respect that (as he would if it were you and your family)? It's what they believe.

They aren’t religious or strict at ALL, plus they love me! When I’m at his house they let us go in his room with the doors locked. It’s just confusing because whenever we’re about to go on a vacation he tells them that him and I will be leaving, he’s never asked for their permission to go on a trip with me. But now all of a sudden he’s afraid of what they’ll think if he spends the night, it’s just weird to me.

How dependent is he on his family to provide for him?

I mean for his age he makes good money, so mostly everything he has was bought by himself.

Would he have the resources to get his own place? If not, having a roof over your head is a huge deal, and, if that's what's on the line, then his fear is understandable.

Yes he could definitely get his own place as of right now, we plan on moving in together this year or early next year.
