Why is my boyfriend scared of seeing my parents?

so we have been together over 10months now and we haven't met each others parents yet.
His not my first boyfriend but I've never met any guys parents and im not his first girlfriend but he's never met any girls parents
So anyway i told him that ill be graduating in October and i asked him "would u come to my university graduation?" and he said "yeah if u invite me" and i said "yeah ofcourse"
and then i said "my family is obviously coming.. my parents, brothers, their gfs.."
and then his face showed he was worried and i said "what? whats wrong?"
and he goes "damn.. im dropping my balls. im scared to meet your parents. esp your mum. she sounds judgmental from what youve been telling me about her. im scared.. i know i have to meet them some day.. dnt worry, i will definitely come to your graduation.. its just that im scared what they will ask me"
and i asked him "what do u think they will ask?"
and he said "well ur their only daughter so they gonna ask me like 'what do u do?' or 'can u support my daughter?' and other shit like that"
and i told him not to worry too much
Why do u think he's THAT scared to meet my parents? Is this legit reason what he said?

In my opinion parents are always more protective of their daughters, especially if you are their only one and they have other kids, if he really likes you and wants you to like him then he would want your parents to approve of him, if you are close to your family then you would obviously value their opinions so he could be afraid you will think less of him if he fails to live up to their standards and expectations. You should be happy he was willing to admit that he is scared to you though and make sure to do your best to help him and make him look good in front of your parents, if you help take his side he will be more comfortable and be able to make a better impression with them

I feel if he didn't want to commit he would have made excuses to not met them, instead he told you guys fears and that he was still willing just scared

I hated it too. Your meeting strangers who are acting kind but they're studying your every word and move to see if your good for their daughter. Luckily for me her dad was as wild as me so we got on and it helped we supported the same team. Her mum was fake as fuck though

re-assure him that everything will be okay. and say you'll be with him so he doesn't have to worry. but if any chance he decides to bail on you, keep in mind that its a process, he obviously has never met his other girls parents and if he has , either he didn't have a good relationship with them etc.

maybe he is afraid to meet your parents because he is afraid they won't approve and you would have to break up or he does something wrong and makes they disprove of him

yeah its complicated. his family is fucked up.. they fucked him up big time when he was a teenager so thats why i haven't met his family yet. he's not in contact with any of them anymore
