He says he doesn’t hate me but stays distant?

Me and my friend had a little fall out over a misunderstanding that hurt the both of us. Mainly it was caused by other people who were trying to get between us. But like he told me he still wanna be friends but I don’t buy it cause he’s been so distant and doesn’t really talk to me much like he used to.

One day I decided to reach out to him after I gave him some space and said that I know he hates me and that he need to admit it so we could move on.

He told me he doesn’t hate me and wondered why I thought that, but it just feels like he does. But I don't know, I’ve given him space but he won’t budge.

I think you are overreacting and you are pushing that opinion "you hate me", don't do that. You can make reaction in him with that pushing where he could think "maybe she want me to hate her".
But how so ever my opinion is that it is really hard to keep friendship with someone you share romance, maybe this is his thinking too and he is keeping distance. Love is battlefield, sometimes you win sometimes you lose :/

That’s just how I felt and wanted to ask for clarification. I prefer people to be straight up with me rather than hiding how they actually feel or sugar coating. I didn’t wanna seem like I was wasting his time

I can say your approach for you situation is mature but not for that "you hate me" part, haha.
Maybe he is afraid to have that talk with you, there is always ONE with more guts for things like that and it will be always like that. You mentioned that your situation get worse due to influence of other people and I'm sorry to hear that, but I think if you talk about it and put all cards on the table you can solve that issue. Why to waste something good and something worth fighting for because of some unimportant people... :)

That’s what I was thinking too, it’s tough though cause I gave him space before speaking to him again

Take that "leap of faith", talk about it soon as possible and you will be at peace. better than stalling and overthinking what could happen :)
