What are the key points of noticing the difference between a crush and being in love?

That is a really good question. Love happens over time and often reciprocated leading into a relationship with oneanother. Whereas a crush may sometimes feel like love, whether It's for a friend or someone you've either liked or see yourself being with. You can love someone without it being romantic love. I guess there's different kinds of love. I think at times a crush may feel as though it's love because what we're in love with is an idea of what we believe love to be like when that crush turns from more than a crush into real romantic love that is had in a loving relationship. I suppose the toughest type of love is unrequited love. It's hard to be in love with someone and not have that love reciprocated.

There's many other words thrown around or used to describe both a crush or what we perceive as love, like lust, infatuation and so on. It's a complicated thing to navigate and others perception is not necessarily the right explanation. I think every different situation is unique and needs to be looked at in terms of the context.

Fantasy vs. reality. You crush and it's usually fantasy land. You might deeply care for them so deeply and tick off all the marks on charts that distinguish "infatuation" from "love". But what we have are mostly fantasies. We haven't dated them and really gotten to know their deepest and most vulnerable sides yet. We just have our imagination.

And we always have our imagination. I've been with my wife for almost a decade and a half now and there is an image of her in my head, like her laughs, and smiles, it's almost like a caricature of her. That's what I miss when I'm away from her. But it's real enough and accurate enough when I see her. She doesn't surprise me anymore in ways that disrupt my fantasy of who she is.

Maybe the difference might rest though on our personality traits. I look at charts like these:

... and even what I call my crushes ticked off most of the marks of love. The only one I couldn't tick off was fantasy vs. reality. I didn't really know who they were. I fell in love with the idea of who they were.

Crush is about sexuality but not only. It's also fantasies you secretly desire. i think people imagining the person has that kinda qualities which is unknown. So, crush is more platonic rather than being solely sexual.
Love includes good and bad so I guess it is more realistic.
That's my understanding and I'm happy to hear others' opinions about this.

crushing is not really falling for someone, but an obsession or developing temporary feelings which may die down with time most likely. there's more to love. you develop romantic feelings for someone and having a desire to be with them for rest of your life.

Crushes are temporary, usually brought on by physical attraction. They're flighty and fickle, even the ones that seem to "last forever".
Love is an essence, beyond feelings. It's what life is really all about, whether you know it or not.

A crush is liking the good parts of someone, love is liking them with the bad parts too.

I think of a Crush as Infatuation, which tends to be short lived.
