Is a relationship that’s starts off with a bad foundation (cheating, lying, abuse control) likely to end the same way even with promises to change?

It might not, but that is rare... if the foundations the relationship is set on are already rocky then promises are just trying to reinforce an unstable foundation of a house. It might work for a while but it will never be as strong than one that was built on steady foundations in the first place
