He didn’t tell me he had a girlfriend?

So, there’s this guy, I told him I had feelings for him about 3ish months ago, we talk literally everyday, and I know he trusts me from everything he’s told me. He did tell me that one of this closest friends told him she had feelings for him too and he told me he’s always had a thing for her. Just last week he changed his Facebook status to “in a relationship”and his profile picture to him and his girlfriend. There were thousands of chances for him to tell me about how serious they were getting. I did confront him saying it hurt to find out this information via Facebook and he replied back with “I’m sorry, I had 0 intentions of hurting you”. So I guess I just want some more insight to why he wouldn’t tell me. I’m very confused and still very hurt by it

I should preference this by saying we’re very close friends as well. It’s not the relationship that hurts, it’s the fact he never told me
