In a relationship, do you disclose financial details?

I don't really feel like sharing that information but is it important? nMy earning is much higher than your typical 20 year-old college student (too much that I don't need a provider at all) but that's only because something terrible happened. My parents died in an auto accident a couple years ago and I was their only child. Their 2 properties, vehicles and dad's shop are all under my name.

To be honest I would've wanted to earn money on other ways, not this horrible manner. If I could toss all this away to have my parents back I would. Do you need to disclose financial details in a relationship? Do I need to tell a man my real earning?

It's according to what point in a relationship you are. If you're simply dating and have no longterm plans, then no, you don't have to discuss anything about your personal finances.

However, if you do have a partnership in mind, and plan to have children together, you will have to set up finances to protect those children and set up legal plans to distrubute that money in case anything happens to you.

Since you are so young, you might want to set up a trusted older relative to be in charge of your finances until you embark on a longterm partnership. And don't go into your money situation at all until you've known someone a year or two. You can simply reveal that you have an annuity left by your parents that you live off of. Don't disclose anything about the business left to you or anything.

It's none of anyone's business how much money you have, or what your income prospects are. There are golddiggers of every sex, age and ilk. Be very careful and keep good financial advisors, meaning professionals, handling your affairs: lawyers, accountants and investment pros.

Don't hand such business matters over to ANY partner, especially once you have children. Make provisions for your children FIRST, and set something separate up to support a partner for as long as they are in a partnership or marriage WITH you. Unless and until a person earns your trust, don't hand it over. Keeping money and love apart might be the best advice for you to keep your money.

Money can poison and alter people's behavior. Set up protections for yourself in case you lose your faculties, health, or both, for your support. A health-care proviso is important. Update all your legal plans every five years since your life situation will change according to a spouse, children or partner change.

Make sure you have a will as you have large assets to distribute. Update this every five years also. Make sure you have wise relatives, longtime friends and paid managers to help with these affairs. Trust is most important. This isn't to say that you can never trust an outside person who comes into your life. But be careful. And good luck.

I wouldn't if I were you. If you marry someone, it could be revealed, however. If someone close to me really needed money, I would find a way to get it to them anonymously. I would also bequeath some (or all of it) to them in my living will.

It depends on the relationship. If we are casually dating than all she needs to know is that I am taking her to a decent place and if she comes back to my place, I can pay the bills that keep the lights on, and the water flowing. However, if we get married then for insurance, inheritance, and other legal reasons she should know about income, health insurance, investments, etc. But one thing, a female's finances doesn't increase her value on the sexual marketplace (SMV) in fact it shallows her pool of potential mates.

I rather not. At least not until sufficient trust was established. And even then it would be voluntarily and optional.
I understand your risk.
Hence why I would not ask for the income numbers and rather not answer this question if I was asked.
I have a similar risk (fear of being used for money) but I am nowhere close to your level.

The others can market themselves by the $$$ if they want to (and they shouldn't be surprised when they partner up with or marry someone looking for free resources). I look for the real deal, the feelings, the things, that keep us connected if money is completely out of the picture. Transactional relationships are bullsh.

I would be hesitant to share that information early in a relationship, but after a while and once you develop trust in him and things get more serious, it might be a little weird to not share it. I mean at some point you'll have to, right?

If I as a guy were in your shoes I would definitely not share it. It's a little different for women, but I would still be cautious early on.

Yes, but not early on. I once dated a girl who had appx. $1.2 Million in the bank, following her husbands death (they were only married for a very short time). This is something that would/ could have shaped our relationship/ interaction; so, when you're serious it is important to tell them where you are.

If you two are already in a relationship for like a year now, and you consider that a serious relationship then you can tell him in my opinion.

Depends how serious the relationship is, I've never really disclosed my finances to girlfriends unless we are exceptionally serious, or getting married. My ex wife was the only one that knew the true extent of my finances.

My wife and I have always put everything together and equally shared the details.
The only exceptions are vehicle titles and pension/IRA accounts but that information is shared openly. Vehicle titles have always been in my name to offer some protection for her as I am the primary driver of both with less liability for her. It is a legal requirement that pension/IRA accounts have to be separate.

Sounds such a American problem. I have never said anything about. y money in any relationship i have ever been in. The only time I believe it would be ok to do is of i had dept or she has dept, that would in some way effect the relationship in some way. I have been asked if I'm ok money wise, but to that i always say I'm good and never go into details.
