Why do many people (esp women) stay in dead-end relationships?

Many people (esp women) get too comfortable and stay in dead-end relationships. WHY?

Signs when a relationship is going nowhere and has no purpuse:
- Too many arguments, drama, trust issues, nothing gets solved and you're unhappy
- No support from your family in your relationship and they hate him/her for a reason
- After 4-5 years, there are still no future goals/plans beyond lustful moments and wishes in the air ''Oh one day when we own a house, oh someday''.
- You constantly think of breaking up with them but don't do it
- You’d rather spend time with other people or step out often to be by yourself
- You share nothing in common and you don't feel true to yourself
- One partner puts ultimatums and you're just obeying them out of fear of breaking up

That's relationship has already run its course, it was dead long ago and you're not even going to have kids with them.

After 4-5 years... the relationship can't be at the same pace as it was when you guys were just dating for 2-3 months. There shouldn't be anymore ''Someday, one day, I wish'' anymore.

Yes, some people hold onto the fantasy that the other will change, yet there are just as many people who have just settled... due to the emotional and financial cost of breaking up or not wanting to be alone. I'm not so sure there is an imbalance between men and women when it comes to this. People, for the most part, don't like change. They'd rather accept something that's tolerable than trade that person in for someone else who is just as bad or worse. If people don't educate themselves and learn what makes a potential partner healthy for them, they're just rolling the dice and hoping for the best.

People find themselves in this situation for many reasons. Sometimes they know from the start they are settling. Other times, they have no idea how to choose a partner or create and nurture a healthy relationship. Prioritizing looks or money over everything else will generally lead to disappointment in the long run. From many people's perspective, "better the devil you know than the devil you don't."

Most people that have been in a relationship for years fall into that comfort zone and stop putting in as much effort as when they just got into it. Then they also become stressed by the idea of leaving the relationship and having to start from point 0 and having to have all those dates and conversations to filter people and potentially end up in the same scenario.

We all no those people, the ones that just can't be single and has a new boyfriend/girlfriend a week after they broke up with their last...

Just think there are more women like that, then men.
Maybe it's cause it's more socially acceptable for men to have multiple partners and therefor satisfy their sexual needs while single... Whereas women if they want sex without social stigma it kind of has to be with a boyfriend.

yet they're not gaining anything out of that. They are wasting more time by staying longer.

If you take away the ''just sex'' part, there is nothing to enjoy if you're unhappy most of the times and things aren't progressing.

I understand but you're not gaining anything out of that relationship. Instead you're losing. You're not going to marry nor have kids with him; things aren't progressing. Do you really want to be in that situation forever and allow your more years to pass by?

Unless both never want to form a family and are ok with that arrangement, any long-term relationship either progresses to the next level (kids and/or marriage) or dies.
