What would you guys do if you were to be in this situation?

This guy who I have been crushing on is giving me the vibe of hot and cold. On one day, he’s like completely avoiding me and seems uninterested while the other days it’s the opposite, as I feel him staring at me. I’m so confused with mixed emotions. I have been very patient as much as possible since I confessed my feelings which was a pretty while ago. I’m not really sure if I should still be waiting. However, I have never met someone like him and compared to other guys I met, he seemed much more like a good person. Yet again, I really worry if he’s in a relationship with another person. I don’t really know what his relationship status is— Plus, I don’t want to bother him either…

In that age boys don't know what they want, they want to act like CHADS and to play around with girls, they could be afraid and don't have balls to be straight forward with girls or like you said maybe he is already in relationship, lot of possible scenarios.
First I would focus on the last one, see if he is in relationship, if he is single, he is acting. Keep ignoring him but try to "say" that you are still around and he will be interested and start to chase you instead.

You really have one option, which is to talk to him, I know you don’t want to bother him, however he’s giving off mixed signals with the hot n cold thing.

Either just ignore him and let it die out or have a quiet word to see if he is happy to chat.

you do not need to ask him directly about him dating, you could ask one of his friends if he’s dating or seeing someone.
