High school sweethearts are always told that they don't have hope for a future, what's your thoughts on it?

Honestly I've thought about this a bunch and I can't say that I have extreme faith in my peers. However I can say for sure there are a few couples that I'm definitely rooting to stay together for the long run, but who knows.

That's an exploration and discovery phase of our lives. We don't have enough experience and knowledge at that time to know what would be in our best interest, even if it feels perfect at the time. Not only that, high schoolers have another decade to have a clear picture of who they are, so you're making a commitment without knowing what the final result will be. Would you choose a meal based on seeing a few of its ingredients, without knowing what the final result will be?

Let's say I schedule you to do a brain operation on someone next week. We know you're a fast learner, so you should be able to pick up the knowledge you need while you operate. You may say that's completely different. It's amazing how many people feel education is important for a career, yet how often have you heard people say education is important for a healthy relationship or parenting?

Well, it looks like you're from Canada so the good news is that, by the stats, marriages have a better chance at lasting a full decade than marriages in the America.

Either way, marriages of *any* kind in North America have about a coin-flip shot of avoiding divorce (and then how many of the ongoing marriages are actually *happy*?).

So, I don't think the high school sweetheart part hurts the chances. In general those won't last for natural reasons (young love, relationship inexperience, etc.) but when it *does* work those might be better than meeting someone on a dating site in your 20s.

People usually change between the ages of 15 and 25. Most of the time their priorities change and they are really entirely different people at 25 than they were in high school. If two people change in different ways they may not be compatible anymore. Not a great recipe for a good relationship.

my aunt and uncle have been married 60 years. since highschool. and they are still together... but they're also the least happy relationship i see. she isn't nice to him and he doesn't realize he could have better. he is kinda a wimp and she has never lost anyone so she doens't know how bad it can be

They are most likely to stay together if they dont go in believing its not going to work. I was w my hs sweetheart for 9 years and we only broke up due to other peoples nonsense saying stuff like this constantly over the years.

There are some that do.
I think there were 4 or 5 couples from my class that are still married to their high school girlfriends.
