Why do families want to torture couples? when will this toxicity from families stop?

One of my friends shared that he is so pissed off his family torturing his wife.
He and his wife are madly in love with each other and she is perfect partner, but his family keeps comparing his wife to their elder daughter in law
He shared his wife doesn't say a word but he realises her pain but could not talk bcz his father keeps threatening him
He said His wife may not share bt he realises that due to family they are getting aparat.

Manipulation is unfortunately a problem in some families. If his father is threatening him he needs to be a man and stand up to his father. Also as sad as this is they don't need any abusive relationship in their lives. They have the right to ask to be treated better or just not be in their lives anymore. Be prepared manipulators will call your bluff so be ready.

Because this is your friend, I'd recommend they get counseling to figure out how to approach this if they're really upset, nervous, feeling guilty, or unsure how to handle this.

They should spend more time together and a bit of more time apart from either family members, thr truth is that couples should spend more time alone anyways, but she should try confronting thr parents I guess because unless they have a reason they can find a solution too, them being confronted might change things, of course as a normal civilized person a good normal talk, no need to get mean or aggressive just a proper conversation to get both point of views out into the light
