What are some of the compromises a guy and girl has to make in this situation?

After a sexual assault they may get panicked in triggering situations, may have high or swinging emotions, and may not be comfortable being intimate with you for a little while. Be there for them and make sure the relationship is safe for them, they know you will not leave and you are not upset with them over what happened or how it has affected them. They may want to talk about it, or they may want to NOT talk about it. They may not know what they want. Trauma can effect everyone different. Just don't pressure them into "getting over it" faster or "better". Give them time to come to terms with what's happened to them and start healing however they are most able to.

Over several months, they should be on the way back to normal levels of stress and distress in general and general functioning, but if not it may be good to suggest counseling. Around 6 months is the marker for when normal trauma response can set into PTSD, so if they're still struggling badly with it after that time definitely seek professional help.
