Boyfriend of one year is asking for space. What should I do?

We don't live together or see each other every other day. I have a job that requires me to travel a lot but whenever I'm in town which is usually once or twice a week we spend time with each other. We text/call each other every day but we're not constantly on the phone with each other during the day he's at work and cannot use his phone in the office. Recently I started feeling that something was off and asked him what's going on and to my surprise he said he needed some space I was shocked and I was wondering why he didn't tell me earlier instead of acting like he doesn't care anymore. I'm pretty sad as I don't know where is this coming from and I don't know what to do and how to react

Well that’s not something you can control and if he does want to break up hopefully you will learn why. But because you have a good relationship and because you respect him then granting his request and giving him that space is your best move. As I said make sure he says when to check in or when he’ll reconnect. In the meantime you have extra space to focus on yourself and reflect
