What do you say when your friends with benefits says I love you during sex?

So about a year ago I had a friends with benefits we had been seeing each other for more than six months when he said I love you.

So normal I say something along the lines of I love the way you touch me but I have never said I love you. I just ended up responding with I love the way you (fill in the blank) me. And we didn't really talk about it afterwards.

What would you have said? Do you think that's an okay response? I honestly think it's just something he said in the heat of the moment so I didn't bring it up afterwards.

The way I understand friends with benefits is that there is no real emotional attachment to this arrangement. It is purely physical or supposed to be anyhow. Correct me if I am wrong because I have never had a friends with benefits relationship.

If that is the case, then I would say it is inappropriate to be saying or even conveying love consider there is supposed to be no emotion attachment. This is the problem with this sort of arrangement. Often those go into thinking they can keep emotions out but find out they can’t. It is often one sided as well, which creates issues like you are having not knowing what to say.

Might be best to reestablish boundaries before feelings get hurt when you don’t have the same emotional feelings as he does.

While i disagree with your statement about no emotional attachment in a friends with benefits relationships. I do think it's inappropriate to say "I love you" in a friends with benefits relationship the same way it's inappropriate to say it on a first date or one week into dating someone.

Just for reference a friends with benefits relationship to me is someone you can talk to about your day, plans, and ambitiouns just like you would with a friend but only when you meet up. At the same time not someone you would go cry to if something terrible happened. Versus a booty call which to me is a truly no emotional attachment or support, stritcly sexual relationship.

My experience at the end of the day, it's friends with benefits make it clear at the end of the day, but let all of your needs out doesn't really matter if it's friends with benefits

Okay, here it is in a nut shell in most Men and women:
Women: Emotional connection leading to Sex... ask your girlfriends.
Men: visual and touch equates to Love... then Emotionality forms and expresses itself with "I love you". If man says and feels this THEN he is certain, in his analytical Self/mind that woman does too...
