Why can’t my parents let me drive?

I’m so sick of my parents “babying” me. I got my driver's license a month ago and I’ve never driven by myself. They’re saying I don’t have any experience driving by myself. To gain experience you would expect them to let me drive by myself, right? I honestly get the fact that they bought me an expensive first car. It’s a 2022 Hyundai Kona. What do you guys think? I’m really trying to drive my senior year next week.

OMG my parents were the same when I first got my driver's license. I still remember feeling so embarrassed because my mom would let me drive the car to school but then wouldn't let me have the car until the end of the day. I think this lasted for one or two weeks. Ask them when do they plan on letting you drive by yourself. You also need to show them that you're confident enough to drive on your own. Don't get into an argument with your parents over the fact that they're not allowing you to drive on your own just say all this in a calmly and mature manner. They will eventually let you drive don't worry.

In two months they say. I’m a senior in high school and I just don’t want to take the bus.

I understand. Well, you either wait two months or keep reminding them how you hate to take the bus.

They should have bought you a used car that if it gets banged up it won't be the end of the world and stress you all out that much.

But they let you get your license, so that's something.

Remind them of how responsible you are. (And make sure you are responsible.)

I think if you buy your own car then you can do what you want with your own property. That's the trap you fall into when you let people buy things for you...

My mom doesn’t want me to work. She said she’ll just give me an allowance and I keep telling her no. I need real world skills. I can’t have them spoon-feed me.

I think it’s unfair how I got my license before half of the people in my graduating class and they drive by themselves.

Why would they buy you a new car (when you are a new driver) and not let your drive. Sounds like a big chunk of story is missing.

Oh noo, when I was 18 they didn't let me work either. I wanted to work as a makeup artist, saleswoman, at cafes and fast food joint or even at a spa. They told me why do you need to do this when we are earning? Now after graduating from college they are constantly bugging me to work. Like they only didn't allowed me for years!!

Go get a part time job at least, if I had a chance to go back to the past, i would have done the same. Girl don't listen to your controlling parents because later it will get worse.

You are gaining experience every time you drive the car, whether they are there or not.

Somewhat understandable, but I'm a bit surprised they aren't tired of riding with you everywhere. It seems a bit cautions but you should be thrilled they have given you a new car. That's far more than most teens get.
