Monogamy benefits men more than women, since historically large groups of women would attach themselves to a super successful alpha, such as the harems of Arab or Indian or Chinese princes. Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses II was alleged to have over 22,000(!!!) children from willing mothers. The single man who has contributed the most genetic material to the human race, Chinghis Khan, raped an impossible to know number of women while cutting a bloody path across Asia the Middle East and Europe. Since most men are betas, they would be unable to pass on their genes if most of the children were born to these super wealthy powerful men and everyone else was stuck ‘taking matters into their own hands’. In order to ensure sufficient genetic diversity and thus the survival of the species action was needed to prevent women’s hypergamy from destroying us all. This was back when marriage mattered before the rise of the modern welfare state, when women had to marry a man instead of big daddy government who steals from men at gunpoint to sustain irresponsible choices made and kept by women.

Monogamy is an inclination that humans possess. Societal endorsement, and institutionalization of monogamy was created by both men and women.
Monogamy for women means that they have sole access to a man's resources, and his protection. Monogamy for men means security that his investment is sound (his children are his; his wife is only for him), and grants him equitable and regular access to sex. Men without access to sex/ mates are more aggressive/ violent, and create an environment where men die, and women are raped. Having an exclusive sexual partner controls testosterone/ aggression; having children further limits testosterone/ aggression; getting older (as married men live longer) further limits testosterone/ aggression to the degree where the man can think clearly, and think long-term.
This peaceful, long-term thinking benefits both men and women, and of course the children as well.
Monogamy has incredible benefits for both sexes, beyond our preference for it.
Who knows, but honestly I think the world would be a disaster if people practiced poly more often. We would be overpopulated with children With absent fathers more than we are now. More stds etc
Men who want to be one of many husbands to one wife are basically non-existent. Even otherwise, most ment want monogamy.

Absolutely not. Monogamy has always been preferred. In the old times, the reason polygamy was prominent was because the man of the house would need as many children as possible. Boys to wok the fields or fight in wars, girls to marry into other families for good relationships and create trade. Many children didn’t survive growing up. Most boys would die young in war. There were many widows and women who couldn’t find a reliable man, so they would rather join as a concubine to a wealthy man than a poor man with nothing. At least they would live well and not worry about survival or being raped and killed by bandits and thieves/murderers. As we reach more modern times where crime has been severely decreased, women have more protection and independence, they are free to choose who to marry. The tables have turned, now the man need to attract the woman, and the woman decides everything and is protected by the law. This isn’t the case everywhere. Women still don’t have rights in most countries. Western women are blessed to have been born in those countries.
No. One of the big reasons I've seen that makes the most sense has more to do with inheritance and property than love or sex. A man who has a position that may be passed down to an heir, or owns land or any substantial holding that willbe passed down will often be very concerned that the child his partner gave birth to was sired by him... no interlopers allowed.
These wealthy men would also be the ones making the laws. That is why you will see older laws (and some that still exist maybe) where the penalty for a WOMAN committing adultery might be death, and at the same time find that there is no law against a man doing so...
Very much a paternal law written to control a man's "property" including the woman.Yes, being partnered in holy MATRIMONY likely means women decided monogamy was best.
Likely because men cooperate better when they don't have to fear their neighbour taking their wife because the neighbour has a wife.
Even so, powerful men tend to have concubines or mistresses, because they can afford it and because they are desireablre. That being said, most men are/can be content with one women, and often dedicate themselves to her, even powerful men. Look up Charles De Gaulle and his wife Yvonne and kids, a very pure love they had.No, it is the opposite, monogamy was created for the benefit of the majority of men, polygamy only benefits a minority of men.
Cultural evolution selected monogamy because of its beneficial effects.
Monogamy suppresses intrasexual competition and reduces the number of single men, which lowers crime rates, including rape, murder, assault, robbery, and fraud.
By shifting male efforts from finding wives to paternal investment, normative monogamy increases savings, child investment, and economic productivity.
By increasing relatedness within households, monogamy reduces conflict within the household, leading to lower rates of child neglect, abuse, accidental death, and homicide.
Monogamy is the result of the controls imposed in feudal societies so that the local lord and his family remain dominant.
It's also created when most men in a society are similarly strong, with social elevation and violent conflict suppressed. Such as in an industrial western economy.
Women often prefer it, as it grants them more social power, but it's not something they came up with.
Polyamory, particularly based on a harem model is coming back as a good option because so many men in the west make for bad providers and protectors, and because there's a lot of room to rise.Monogamy was not created by women, but evolved because polygamous societies leave a lot of men single for life, and such men tend to become violent. Monogamous societies were so much more harmonious that it was more beneficial for propagating the species than limiting reproduction to the most successful, strongest, or attractive men.
I think some men would, and other men really would not. Some men are naturally more charismatic or they're more attractive or they've got a bigger dick so they're more desirable to women in general. They might want polygamy. Other men maybe less charismatic less attractive smaller dick or everything the first man is but they want their relationship to mean something and they want to find a partner instead of many people.
One of rhe reasons; just one: I think all Abrahamic religions say that you need to know the parents of a child. I don't think the idea of DNA applies here. Imagine in the old times a woman having sex with multiple husbands and one of them ends up impregnating her.
And here I thought we lived in a patriarchy, where men already made the rules, "telling women what to do with their bodies" in a way that would make it so that a man doesn't immediately bolt after impregnating a woman.
No monogamy was conceived by your Creator, God. It is a biblical construct and you can read all about it in the book of Genesis in the Bible.
Monogamy is a social construct... so all we have to do is look to the past and see who was in charge, who enforced it and who was actually punished for not being monogamous... there is your answer.
Doesn't work. Polygamy results in a lot of frustrated young men.
Depends. I’d say narcissist boys most likely yes, men no
It possibly cannot be created by one single sex polygamy requires more people so its a co-choice
No, monogamy was created by the Founding Fathers as a way to force men to provide for their children.
no lol
if men ran on instincts
dating would not be real
we would just force ourselves
on you girls
and you would have no choice
thats the male instinct
