LDR: What are your thoughts on this?

Long Distance Relationship. Do you think it really works? Is it just the end of the beginning or the beginning of the end?

If you're starting from a real life basis but need to go long distance due to school or work, it can work out, but only if both continue to prioritize staying connected and keeping the relationship new and alive. When either starts reducing the connection, the end of the relationship is often near. Don't expect 24/7 contact, as your partner has commitments that must be met. You just want to feel a significant commitment when time is available. Also, make sure both of you learn effective communication skills before going long-distance, so you can avoid making assumptions or taking things personally.

Most long-distance relationships with strangers generally don't survive. You're only seeing and hearing what the other person wants you to see or hear, so you're only getting part of the picture. It's what is withheld that is often important to know. There are too many scammers who take advantage of lonely, gullible people. Without in-person contact during the development of a relationship, we don't know who that person actually is. This is something that commonly happens when people move in together, also, as we can no longer be on our best behavior when we're always together, and the real person comes out.

It can work. But… It takes a LOT of work.


You need to really put in the extra effort of coordinating schedules, making time for each other, being really good at bonding and connecting and quality time, being really good at resolving conflicts long distance, being really good at providing each other’s emotional needs long distance.


It’s a lot more work and everything is more challenging. But, if the relationship is really special and important to you, it can be worth it.


And, to keep the sexual attraction and energy alive, getting really good with phone sex is another thing that can help as a temporary substitute for physical touch.

I think you would need a strong relationship and good communication in order for it to work. It's easy to drift away since the person isn't next to you. If it's a couple months then it'll probably work out. Any longer and you might run the risk of drifting apart.

Communication wise, we're good. We almost talk 24/7. Audio call, video call, voicemail and text. But how long will it be? Will it suffice?

You obviously have to meet sooner or later and one has to move to the others city or you both pick a place eventually. I’ve seen a guy do it in college. He was very faithful to his woman. It’s possible, but incredibly rare today, especially with social media.

We do visit each other once every month and stay with each other at least 3-5days, depends on his availability. We're not friends on socmed sad to say. But we talk almost 24/7.

LDR’s work for some people however I’m not a fan of them & I prefer SDR’s all the way. When it comes to the love of my life I like to keep things local where her & I don’t have to travel far to see each other.

I do prefer that, too. But in life, there are many circumstances that we don't have any control of. And this is one of them. Sad but true. Kinda hard but we're both trying. But until when? Each day gets harder. :(
