How can I let go of the past?

My boyfriend and i have been together for 8 years. we only knew each other for a month before we “dated” the first couple of years in our relationship he DMed girls telling them they were beautiful, he screen shot a bunch of girls pictures, he recored a porn stars ass when he was working for her. i found out he did all that bc he didn’t know if we would be together, he didn’t know if he loved me. i’m so heart broken about this bc if he felt that way he should have told me and we would have stayed friends. he says everything is different, he’s not the same person he was back than and that he loves me very much. but i can’t let go of the fact that he did all this behind my back and he wasn’t sure if he loved me. I don't know how to let this go
