Who should gift first or it doesn't matter?

My long distance boyfriend and I are going to meet the second time and we have dating for close to a year. I was thinking of getting a small gift for him. But I was wondering that when we meet, should I wait till I see if he gifts me first then I can gift him the another time we hang out on other dates or should I give him regardless if he has a gift or not?

Talking on the phone or computer is not dating or a relationship. He's not your boyfriend, he's just some guy you talk to that you met once. You have to see somebody in person regularly to be dating or in a relationship

It's sweet you got him a gift. I wouldn't read much into it if he hasn't got you one, albeit unusual. Overall it doesn't matter in my opinion of course.

It shouldn't matter at all. You want to give him a gift because you WANT to, and should not expect anything in return. It's a thoughtful gesture, and he'll most definitely appreciate it :)
