Is it better to give these gifts early or late?

My friends are having consumables for Christmas gifts. I am having a birthday dinner next week, but I can’t afford to get everyone their gifts around the same time.

I’ve got two bags for two friends (one bag each); and I’ve yet to buy the consumables. I could afford them in time for early December, or I could give the gifts in January. Which is best?

If you can’t afford anything, just tell everybody let’s not trade Christmas gifts this year unless you want to trade free fruit off of your fruit trees

I suggest you give them the bags at the birthday dinner as long as no one will be left out, then do the consumables before Christmas.
