How to forget my first love?

I was in a relationship with a guy for 6 months and he was really my first love but i wasn't his first. This is sad cause i told him that i love him at the moment i felt that but he never responded me and he disappeared for 80 days after that now he is back but i dont know thats not as the same as it was one day... i think he is not ready for a relationship or he isn't sure about his feelings. he has to move to another state for college in a few months , and when i asked him why did you disappear? he told that he thought our relationship won't work in term of long distance. Now i dont know what to do , the guy that i knew once couldnt stand on one day without talking to me but now even if we dont call for a week , he seem to not have a problem , i wrote him a letter and told him that i think this is just me here trying for our relationship to work and i wish to forget him and move on cause he has changed and it hurts me , he didn't stop me but he said he hopes to be with me again. if it will impress your answers i should say that we never had sex , and im sure that he didn't come back for sex, i think i can understand him... but this that he is less involved emotionally than me hurts , and now i want a remedy to forget him but on the other hand i dont want to forget him cause i fear if i forget him i will also forget all the good feelings that we had together and i dont want that...
