What do you guys think about the increase of single men?

A disclaimer I am not a US citizen but I think this is a world wide so I am answering and using US stats.

First of all this topic will be spun e. g. men are unsatisfactory and women are - wisely - opting to be single.

But where are these stats coming from? First observation is there are more US men than women. In say the late twenties there are 370,000 more men than women. It takes till the late forties till there are more women than men. ASSUMING that no time-sharing or importation happens then there will be unpartnered men just because of that.

Second is that since 1990 (Pew Research) unpartnered in prime working life has risen to 39% (men) 36% (women) for a 3% gap. Unpartnered is a problem for both sexes (if it is a problem) as in 1990 it was 29% equally.

Certainly low income men struggle more than low income women. Financially vulnerable women are just 1% less likely to be partnered but financially vulnerable men are 23% less likely to be partnered. There is still a strong expectation that men should fund a household but women don't need to.

You can pontificate and spin a lot of stats but there isn't a lot of point other than reinforcing your own preferred world view.

To a large degree this an economic problem on the individual level and more importantly on the national level. Quite simply there is a substantial section of the population that aren't generating enough economic activity for their own good or the US good.

It's troubling, but not as much as the rise of friendless men (and women, too, I suppose). THAT is where the real trouble is going to come from; a mouse utopia is one thing, but when the socially isolated population hits critical mass, we're screwed in a way I don't think can be recovered from.
