Nothing you say will change his mind because this is a manipulation tactic used commonly by narcissists to make you doubt yourself and they can stay in control of you
That sounds like something an emotional manipulator says. It's actually a classic sign of NPD as well. I suggest you skip responding and leave him. It will only get worse.
does he say it all the time? if so show him how someone else would love to have you but be prepared to leave him and you should, but if he only said it once jokingly heck he was just messing with you get over it!
"Oh! So, I'm just a sympathy fuck to you, hunh?" If that's you eating chocolate, except for the cats, I'd take ya!!

It wasn’t a joke. There’s usually some honesty in jokes. Look at most comedians, their jokes are usually based off real life situations. Does he do this a lot? Maybe a narcissist?

Seriously, I would not say anything to that. I recommend you get away from him quietly and decisively. He sounds dangerous.
What time would you like to schedule the therapist for your insecurity and control challenges?
Tell him that you are the best piece that he has or EVER will have and he won't get anymore. Then leave.
he's jealous he'll say anything. he's PROJECTING HE KNOWS YOU CAN DO BETTER HE doesn't THINK HE CAN. he's TRYING TO MAKE YOU FEEL INSECUR3B
Go find a decent guy, then tell your boyfriend to rack off!
I think that sounds like a challenge. And you should accept it lol.
Tell him you lowered your standards when you met him.
I would look into if that is a one time event, or his standard.
If it is the second one, expecting him to change is a fantasy. Because he doesn't really sees a reason to do so.

Ask him why he wants you. Ask him why he’s saying that?
"Why?"
This is a breakup waiting to happen, so you might as well help him bury himself deeper to elaborate.

You should break up with him because he's abusing you emotionally and mentally if this is a common occurrence
Nothing. He’s not worth continuing to interact with.
Tell him: "Alright, now you won't have me either. Goodbye and go fuck yourself."
Say nothing but leave him. He doesn't deserve you.
Tell him that you will not tolerate being spoken to that way by someone you lowered your standards for.
