She tried to hit me. I think both of us had realized we weren't a good match by that point, but in the middle of an intense argument, she drew her hand back and let it fly at my face.

Many people assume that being fat means you're weak. This is nonsensical on the surface; a heavier body takes much more force to move, and if I'm half again your weight but still walk, instead of waddle, and do so with both grace and ease, I've got to have some serious muscle. But they also assume that being fat means you're slow, and I'm anything but. So I caught her wrist and held it still, looked her straight in the eye, and said, softly but with all the gravity I could muster "No. No violence.".

Had she backed down there and then, realized what she'd done and apologized, we might- and I stress MIGHT- have been able to move past it, but instead she kept struggling. That split second, things between us ended. Now, we were both sitting, so she could mobilize all of her strength against my unsupported arm, and still she couldn't move it, much less break my grip. You'd think that THAT would have sent a message- even a child will realize and admit when they're overpowered- but no.

Instead, she tried to hit me with her other hand.

I caught that wrist, too, and held her still, refusing to move or speak, or even look away, until I was fully convinced that she'd calmed down. In a sick, twisted way, I was lucky: she took the end of things with a modicum of good grace, and simply left. If she'd gone to the police, I'd've gone to jail. If I'd gone to the police, I'd've gone to jail. Thanks, Duluth model!

These days, it's increasingly difficult to blame people for concluding relationships simply aren't worth it; laws and culture stack the deck against you horribly.

I found out she was a feminist. I'm not staying with someone who sh*ts on all men and thinks we should be enslaved or all exterminated. It's a shame too, cause her body and the sex were both amazing.
