I met this guy at work 2 years ago now and we clicked instantly. We got on great and we would be very flirty with each other. Nothing ever happened beyond flirting though but I did really like him.
Some people at work started making comments about how we acted with each other. One night we were all out for drinks and when he was drunk he was all over me and told me he liked me. He’s a bit older than me so I think he got embarrassed and he stopped talking to me as much.
A few months later he got back with this ex. He would bring her up in every conversation we had. It killed me inside but I backed off and kept things friendly.
The people I work with are great and we are all very close. So long story short, I found out that he broke up with his ex months ago but has still been lying to me about her.
For example, he will ask me about my weekend plans and he will say me and ____ are doing this and that. He told me they went on a vacation together when he actually went alone.
Our mutual friend told me that he ended things with her and he’s been having a rough time so he was concerned about him. Then in a meeting they were all joking around about setting him up with someone.
I know it’s not my business but I just find it strange he would continue to lie to just me and wondered what his reasoning behind this is?

He lies about Girlfriend because of trust issues and this has not changed from “How was school or Job today?…Great.”
He doesn’t want others to know that his kingdom is crumbled and even today guys know Tough and Consistent are expected of them. And it is likely that he does not want to look weakly or dishonorable in your eyes. It is also likely that he does NOT want to deal with your emotive reactions and questions.

Good. It’s kinda true like that for everyone. Maybe, as you two continue to be around one another, he will open up. Nobody likes “to fail.” 🤷🏻♂️
