I messaged him happy new year and he responded the same and he said he hopes I overcome my fear and win in life ( meeting him in person, had a really bad experience with online date) and I responded with thank you, I wish you lots of love and happiness for 2023

Does me wishing him lots of love and happiness in 2023 sound like I'm wishing that for him because I cannot give it?

His text set you up. What he did was immediately place you in a position to either obviously pursue him or self place friendzone. He was find with either.

Your "lots of love" statement confirms that you are unable to meet his needs. And he assumes that the first incident was so traumatic that you were unable to jump that meet him live hurdle.

He will be putting his Valentine plans elsewhere.
