Do you think I should report this company for disposing of wire into the garbage?

I work for a commercial cleaning company. One of the buildings I clean is an office building for an internet provider company. One of the offices is labeled "splicer". When I empty his trash can, I see al sorts of wires. I'm not sure what kind. Possibly fiber optic cables. I read that it's illegal to dispose of those into the trash, or any kind of wire, because its bad for the environmen. I guess I could report the company, but I dont want to because they may know it was me, and then we could lose the contract. Even if we didn't lose the contract, then it would be extremely awkward working their.

I have never heard of it being illegal to throw wire in the trash. I worked in the electronics industry for many years and ALL companies threw wire in the trash. And I don't see why it would be worse for the environment than most other things that go into the trash. If it's illegal anywhere, it's recent and I have never heard of it.

During the manufacture of printed circuit boards they use an etching process to eat away the copper cladding. They are required to capture the copper and chemicals instead of releasing it into the environment. In many countries that's not required though.
