If you mean, lies of omission... then maybe. It really depends on what it is though, if it is something like you just got laid off from work and your not telling your partner that and going to pretend to go to work but your going to go job hunting instead. Then later on say you found a new job.

That seems like it could turn out real bad.

If it is something minor like a guy hit on me today at the store, and I rejected him... no big deal.

He may think it is a big deal but I personally try to state everything and be honest and over tell too much information to avoid problems.

We call this 'lying through omission'.

It's not exactly the same as lying, but it can be just as harmful. So, therefore, I take it just as seriously as lying. If you deliberately withhold information from me can impact the way I perceive you or a situation, then you are deceptive and not to be trusted.

One of the reasons why I ended my relationship with an ex. She withheld crucial information from me in regard to her racist family for months. Her excuse was that she was "protecting" my feelings. When in reality, she was scared that the truth would have me make decisions not in her favor. And she would lose me as her Grade A supply.

Sounds like you are looking for a reason to avoid telling your partner something. That means that you know it would be important to them, and it would be upsetting. Hiding it gives them one more reason to be upset with you.

It depends on what it is you're withholding from them.

It can be deceitful, disloyal, cunning and manipulative if you intentionally withhold things from someone. But personally, I look to the motive behind people's reasons for what they lie about or withhold.

Every human lies and withholds things sometimes. It's the motive and reason behind the lie etc that matters most.

Sometime intentionally omitting certain info and withholding it from someone can actually be worse that an outright lie.

If asked directly, NOT being openly honest IS lying. Some issues are bigger than others and NOT sharing despite NOT being asked can still be construed as deceptive. Take knowledge of an STD, for example. Or getting their mother pregnant. Or killing their pet.

The fact that you're asking about it, means that you are potentially feeling guilty about it.
If it has detrimental consequences for your relationship, then you need to be careful, but it will only play on your mind, because it no doubt has to be talked about.
Only YOU can make the decision as to whether you can deal with not discussing it and whether it's best leaving it unsaid?

It certainly can be! You’re setting the relationship up for failure by not just being real, and if there is malicious intent (like seeing someone else behind your partner’s back), you are intentionally withholding important information for selfish gain.

It's not the SAME thing, but it's still a behavior that will cause distrust in a relationship when it surfaces (equal to the gravity of the secret).

The only time, I've heard this argument brought up is when a buddy of mine slept with a girl who knew she had harpies. He got it too because she didn't disclose. Closing to make that decision for someone is messed up and I hope you don't make the same choice she did.

No. Lying is stating something that is not true. Not telling is just that: not telling. It's not a good thing in a relationship, but it's not lying.

No I can't consider it lying but it's still gonna break trust depending what it is but for me it's about how your partners values your relationship how you communicate if you always did tell them everything and don't about some things they may not like it or cause problems in future conversations

Other times, omitting certain information might actually protect the other person.
