Would self affirmation videos help your relationship?

Many people find my belief in using self affirmation videos in my relationships controversial. One lady on GaG even insulted me, saying...

"Are you telling me that two adults can't discuss their standards for a relationship without some school-style video... I'd feel that I was in a relationship with someone who couldn't communicate with me. A video? Really."

But, how many times have you gotten in a relationship with someone and realized their behavior is not acceptable until it's too late? With video, you can set expectations in a reusable and efficient manner.

What I said was not an insult. It was a statement of true surprize. A video, in my opinion, is a distancing tactic. Talking to someone is one on one and personal.

Your stated, if I recall, that "anyone can have a conversation," as if having serious conversations happens all the time with perfect results. You are talking about the standards of behavior you deem important in a relationship. I suppose if you're watching this video together, this may grease the wheels for a discussion and cover all the bullet points, whereas in a conversation you might forget something.

But, I think you can make notes of your bullet points, talk them through and ask for your partner's opinion of your values. And then ask your partner what his or her values are to see where you differ and where you're in sync. Then work out compromise.

But maybe a video is the way you're comfortable. And of course, a partner might find it as good a way as you do. I would find it odd.
