What do you think about a long distance relationship?

I’ve been in 3 LDRs in my 20s and all I can say is that if there’s no silver lining like a plan to move in together or closer, it will not work. Personally I am not suited for that sort of arrangement because even at my busiest and most distracted I still found time to get depressed and sad over how much I’d miss them, and that’s not good for my mental health. I would also say to be honest with yourself about if that sort of relationship works for you. Even if you love the person deeply, if it’s messing with your head and heart then it’s not worth it.

It is hard I'm not going to lie but we just started out so I can't really say right now if it's going to be a big problem down the road. I do get a bit sad and depressed over not being able to see him whenever I want to but I'm trying to manage it by keeping myself busy. I think so far it is okay, not great but I love him a lot and want to make it work. Plus we've been long distance friends for a very long time before becoming lovers so I'm thinking it can still work based on that. It's just we have to get used to the not being able to have intimate time whenever we want which is the only downside.

It’s ok if you’re just starting out, and my experience may not be yours because everyone responds differently to separation anxiety, distance, etc. But I will say that in general LDR is not meant to be long term. You two worked well as friends for so long because there was not the romantic aspect and therefore no expectations. But now that you’ve taken the next step, I think after maybe 5-6 months is when the rose colored glasses come off and the underlying issues trickle in. I’m not saying this to scare or detour you but just to consider making plans. He’s not someone new by any means, so I think discussing future arrangements in a real way and not fantasy (by that I mean set in stone), then there’s the potential for things to die out. If you’ve already talked this out and have something to look forward to besides visits then there’s definitely more hope for your relationship.

To be clear about that last part (I wrote it out weird lol), is if you don’t make solid plans for the future then things can die out. Long-term LDR when no end in sight just isn’t practical.

I was with my late fiance for 8 years, little over 2 of those were long distance - first time was a year and a half, the second time 7 months. It was worth it for me because I knew both times where temporary.

Very difficult but can also be rewarding. Only people who have lot of patience and trust in each other can make this kind of relationship work. At least you know they're not just in it for attraction.

If it were me, and this is just uniquely me or my personality type, personally at 29, I for one in a long distance relationship (zero experience at any relationship here, ahaha- hahaha), I'd just treat the relationship as a mutual amicable agreed upon fun ride, for as long as it lasts or both want it to last.

After all, for me I'm not one for long term things beyond a few years or a few months, but that's just me. And I've always been single so far. But I'm just saying, I feel like I could imagine eventually, and amicably with an agreed to woman partner, we'd just be in-sync that, it's just a relationship. Not an open, cringey, nuh-uh. Just for as long as it enjoyably last and is fun, otherwise if it ended at 6 months or 6 years if it was me and her, we'd have amicable feels if it ended eventually. Ah wells, merrily hippy modern hippy vibes, not hipster vibes, modern hippy vibes, say no to drugs and no to liquor/no to smokes/no to vapes all, stay clean 👀✌🏻☮️👀
