Should I give her space or should I write to her?

I have known my friend for 6 years now and met on Omegle. Our friendship has been on again and off again since she lives across the world from me and she deals with a lot of traumas. Like we would talk for days on end but then one day she would disappear for weeks or months. Then either I or her would send a message and we would talk again and sent gifts to each other for Christmas.

That is the backstory. For the main part.

I would say since either November or December of last year we were talking again and we started to flirt. I sent her gifts for Christmas as a surprise, flowers for Valentine’s Day and a gift for her birthday. She did love them and told me not to spoil her to much.

We have talked about visiting each other and I have told her that either in the spring or summer time for her that I would be in the country close to her for my graduation gift and we could meet up there. We have talked about dating each other. Just not rushing into it.

Recently she has told me not to leave her and to give her time as she is dealing with stuff and that she is a bad texter. Like I would send her a snap that I thought she would like or message her and then she would leave me on read. So I am curious if I should like just message to check in every couple of days or so or just wait for her?

I have been somewhere similar, and 6 years even if on and off is a long time. I would definitely message in a few days/ even weeks time to check in. As that’s what friends do, they check on each other; and she’s told you she’s having a rough time, so im sure she will be expecting it from you. That said, if you reach out and you are feeling something is different I would suggest being open and honest, say how you feel and ask if she wants you to back off and little or altogether. She hasn’t forgot you, she has been part of your online life for 6 weeks, I think you deserve some validation even if she’s having a hard time, so asking will be what’s best for both of you. If she decides she no longer wants contact unfortunately you have to accept that, and try to move on without hassling her. If you care about her, you will do this for her. Good luck.

I would carry on with your life, being a friend is a two way street, perhaps in this stage of her life you aren't as prominent as she is to you.


Friends can be like seasons, come and go and some are here to stay. Nothing I would take to heart.
