I’m his best friend?

My boyfriend of two years says that I’m his best friend. What exactly does that mean? It almost seems friend zoning but what does it mean when a guy says his long term girlfriend is his best friend?

It's amazing how many people are quick to assume the worst before even checking it out with their partner. Only he can tell you exactly what this means, but if I were to say it, I would mean not only do I enjoy the energy and desire of the relationship, but I also feel very safe with you. I can be myself around you without fear of being judged or rejected. I am comfortable being clear, open and honest with you, knowing you care as much about my feelings as I care about your feelings. Being best friends is the icing on the cake. It adds special meaning and depth to the relationship and tends to predict stability over time, as the last thing he'd want is to do anything that might jeopardize the relationship and lead to his losing the best thing in his life.

Means he really values you as person and partner.

It’s just a natural transition in a long term relationship and he means that you have earned his trust. My parents are their own best friends.
