Why do new couples blast through all the official relationship milestones eg. moving in together, meeting family, expensive trips?

I used to bring girlfriends along when I went to my family's house and even to larger family gatherings at relative's home's. It didn't mean anything other than the fact that I had a girlfriend.

Going on expensive trips is super fun. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Moving in together, though, is stupid. I did it once. I was 34 and she was 32. Everything was great for a while. But when we separated, it was a nightmare. It was a big mistake.

I did live with another girlfriend. I met her when I was 36 and she was 30. We lived together for over a year. I had been infatuated with all my previous girlfriends (from the time I was 16), but she is the only one I loved with all my heart and she loved me. Our time together was idyllic.

She was renting a house and I kept my apartment with all my stuff in it. She stayed at my place sometimes, but I mostly lived at her place because she felt more comfortable there with her stuff. So I just had several changes of clothes and necessities at her place and I could always go to my apartment if I needed something else. No shared expenses, no mutual property. It was ideal.

When my wife and I got married, we immediately rented an apartment together. I don't recommend renting a place and moving in together until you are married.

Because people are in a rush for no reason. I actually had a relationship not work out because of this. I feel like once you get through all those milestones especially quickly, you spoil a relationship.
