Our dog is a mutt/ pitbull mix looks like the picture his name is dodge he's a year and a half. We rescued him from a shelter after being returned for being "too destructive" we've had to make many changes to how we secure the house before we leave so he doesn't destroy things. My boyfriend Steven trains him (he's a first time dog owner) he teaches him basic commands and a bit more but this dog has attacked 2 dogs, wants to kill my pet kitten. Sometimes mistakes small children for animals, I want the mutt gone. People shouldn't be afraid of him, he just has that energy. My boyfriend doesn't want to rid of this dog at all he's extremely attached like he birthed dodge himself. He makes so many excuses the dog can chew off my arm and he'll probably reward him. He spends x amount of money on toys yet can save 250 to buy lessons. We have him on 400mg of trazadone and he's still psycho. Wwyd? My boyfriend is stubborn and will absolutely not let this dog go, I just want to be able to walk around my neighborhood without tearing for others dogs and possibly children.
Get rid of it.

Boyfriend Doesn't Want To Get Rid Of Unruly Dog. What would you do?
It's all fun and games until the police get involved and shoot the dog or he is forced to put the dog down because of bite problems. Unfortunately pitbulls have a nasty reputation for bites and attacking. Granted this is a mix, he still needs to train the dog.
He has more than likely encouraged harmful behavior and needs a trainer to correct it. The trainer isn't just for the dog, it is for HIM to train the dog and be responsible and the dog in line. Given the fact the behaviors displayed now are not good, it will require a lot of lessons to unlearn it and redirect it to more positive and corrected.
If he doesn't want to train it and refuses to listen, he is doing the dog a disservice and endangering you, your cat and others from complacency. You should dump him and leave if he refuses to do something that is already close to the point of no return. You can't force him to give up his dog, much like he can't force you to give up your cat. But you can remove yourself from the situation.
Aggressive pitbulls are like zombies: only a death-strike (to the head for zombies) can stop them. Everything else will just aggravate it more.
My stepfather's dog was attacked by a pitbull. He is a big man: tall & strong. He kicked the pitbull dead on, it flew away, then got up with ease and kept running back at them. After fighting with it on the ground for some time, to try to get it to let go of his dog, which it had in its teeth, he put his pneumatic pistol to its head and shot it. The pitbull wasn't even phased, as though nothing has happened.
The only way to confidently deal with a pitbull on the attack is to shoot it numerous times and/or to carry a knife which can be used to stab it.
Is it excessive?
No. Another pitbull attack story: Police officer and his wife had a trained pitbull for some number of months or even years (I don't recall). Never acted out. One night, it attacks them. They were hitting it with a baseball bat, frying pans, punching, kicking. It took them some time to finally disable it (I think they did end up killing it), but only after having half their bodies mauled, including their faces, which required emergency-care & surgery. Result: permanent disfigurement.
Pitbulls are cute and can be friendly, but if they decide to be bad, they may well not stop until they are dead or seriously injured. I'd compare it to living in a house within which there is a landmine somewhere in the floor. Even if you know where it is, at some point, you might accidentally step on it when you least expect it.
I would keep the kitten as far away as possible. The more doors between them, the better. Honestly, based off the description, it sounds like a dog attack waiting to happen
Your boyfriend isn’t being a good pet owner. This dog obviously needs professional training, as what he needs work on is more behavior and not just sit and lay down commands. I’d probably dump someone like this to be honest. Can’t force him to get rid of the dog, but you can remove yourself from this situation

Yep and better off not risking your cat getting hurt because I know for a fact , if any animal hurt my cat because of a persons lack of responsibility, I’m kicking their ass. My cat is my baby
@BlckGrl yeah well your cat being dead is too late, and sounds like that could happen very quickly with a snap of jaws and a shake of the head. I had a dog like this and we kept him. By the time had lived his whole life, he had killed over a dozen other animals including a goat, an emu, a deer, several cats, and even a baby cow by harassing the momma cow until she kicked her calf in the head and it died. Some dogs are just bloodthirsty. He was a pitt and lab mix.
Yeah definitely don’t take this situation lightly. A person not caring for their dog or another animal life (your cat) reflects a lot about a person. Sometimes it takes stuff like this to see who a person actually is.
As much as I love dogs, there needs to be boundaries. Your boyfriend needs to be a responsible owner and get his dog professional training. He also needs to see how it’s unfair to you and those around him. Especially, if there’s going to be other animals involved.
Poor dog. Dogs are not aggressive by nature, they are trained to be that way. By making excuses for the dog, your boyfriend is actually encouraging the bad behavior. The dog needs training, and an owner who is willing and able to discipline the dog when it acts up. That is not your boyfriend.
You have a choice... get rid of the dog (to a better owner), or get rid of the boyfriend. Best of luck!
Dogs... aren't aggressive by nature. That's the funniest thing I've ever heard. No matter how one looks at that statement is false. First wild dogs are highly aggressive and stem down from wolves who are also highly so by nature. Then 2nd the dogs we have to day were made by breeding them to been like that, we made them more domesticated and pet like by going against nature.
Just break up with the boyfriend. You're not married. If that dog kills a kid or rips your face of it will be partially on you that you weren't smart enough to leave. By being there you are endorsing his behavior. And if he's too dumb to see the risk then he will also be dumb about other important life choices that could affect YOU.
And if that dog did rip your face off good luck ever getting another boyfriend. The reality is that your chances would be slim to none. The guys who are okay with that are already taken.
I've had dogs all my life. They were destructive when we first adopted them from the shelter. I took my first dog to training classes provided through my local library. It taught me how to train my dogs. It's very time consuming but worth it. People didn't want to come to my house because my dog would jump on everyone. I have since trained him and now he sits near the door when guests come in allowing everyone to pet him. You're dog is still young and trainable.
People who own pitbulls have so. wthing wrong with them. Maybe an inferiority complex, paranoia, some unresolved past trauma, whatever.
No one in their mind who's comfortable with who they are woupd have the need to own such a dangerous animal. (Yes, pitbulls are fucking dangerous. They may be sweet to you, but in the wrong situation they've been known to attack people and kill other dogs)
Get rid of him because that dog is about to seriously injure someone or possibly kill a small child or kill an elderly person always remember the age of a child through elderly will show you that these age group people who get killed can cause the owner to face jail time for allowing that dog to be owned by him, and he is sticking up for the dog no two ways about it this serious.
These kinds of dogs are not "First time dog owner" types of dogs. That's the first and biggest mistake right there. His first dog should've been a well-known docile breed like a Golden Retriever or Newfoundland.
Dog people problems. I would never have a dog anyway so can't say based on that. But anyone who chooses a dog over a person's life is dumb. So if this dog is posing a harm to a human it should be put down.
Sounds like a nightmare and legal liability. At the very least get that dog to a competent trainer. And where your boyfriend fails with consistent education, you have to step in.
dogs like that need to have their energy drained with running and lots of long walks daily, training him is ok but will not help a dog like that expend all that energy they have
You are legally liable for the behavior of this dog. He's not safe. Get professional help or return the dog.

Difficult I would lose the boyfriend because he won’t ever forgive you if you make him give up his dog either way on the plus side he will be able to give the dog all of his attention and time.
I get it, but he probably feels like if he gives him up. Who would have him? Not the dogs fault and probably would be put to sleep. If it kills or attacks other dog or human then it’s got to be put to sleep. Not fair on the dog but can’t control it then this could happen

Keep your cat away from it, say we get a better behaved dog, there is a dog like this near me and always looking at mine. My dogs wouldn’t stand a chance if it came at them and the guy who’s walking it is stick thin and doesn’t look like he’s strong enough to hold the dog. If it comes at mine I’ll kill it no dog comes near mine
